Learning Tradition
There are four levels of Guru. The first is Guru, followed by Parama Guru, then Parātpara Guru, and finally Parameṣṭhi Guru — who is Lord Śiva himself, the ruler of the auspicious Northeast direction in the Kāla Chakra. Parameṣṭhi Guru is always Śiva, Īśāna, or Īśvara, the Guru of all Gurus.
The Parātpara Guru of our tradition is Śrī Achyutananda Das.
Pt. Sanjay Rath
Bira Balabhadrapur Sasan, Puri, OrissaSanjay Rath belongs to a traditional family of astrologers from Bira Balabhadrapur Sasan village of Puri, Orissa, tracing their lineage back to Śrī Achyuta Das (Śrī Achyutananda). He studied under his uncle, the late Paṇḍita Kasinath Rath, and his grandfather, the late Paṇḍita Jagannāth Rath — the Jyotiṣa Ratna of Orissa — who authored many books on Jyotiṣa.
He began his studies at a tender age and received the depth of Jyotiṣa only found among those trained in the ancient traditional way of the Paramparā. A graduate of mechanical engineering, he left government service to devote himself completely to Jyotiṣa, combining the depth of ancient knowledge with the ability to communicate it to the modern mind.
He uses Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, Jaimini Upadeśa Sūtras, Bṛhat Jātaka and Sārāvalī as the foundations of his teaching, drawing also from the Bhagavad Gītā, Upaniṣads, Purāṇas, and other sacred literature. His teachings reveal the underlying principles of why astrology works — wholistic, rooted in the ancient scriptures, spanning various schools of thought without creating his own brand.
To promote the teachings of his Paramparā, he founded the Śrī Jagannāth Center, where advanced students help spread Jyotiṣa while keeping its spiritual roots — teaching not only astrology, but also Mantra Śāstra, Mudra, Prāṇayama, meditation, and Sanātana Dharma.
